Overview

Morphine + sevoflurane is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used in anesthesia and pain management. Morphine is a potent opioid analgesic that acts primarily as an agonist at the mu-opioid receptor, providing significant pain relief and sedation. Sevoflurane is a volatile inhalational anesthetic agent used for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia; it acts by modulating various ligand-gated ion channels in the central nervous system to produce unconsciousness, muscle relaxation, and amnesia. When combined, morphine can reduce the minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) of sevoflurane required to achieve adequate anesthesia in some species, indicating an anesthetic-sparing effect; however, this effect may vary depending on dose and species[1][4]. The combination is typically administered during surgical procedures to optimize both analgesia (from morphine) and hypnosis/anesthesia (from sevoflurane).
