Morphine hydrochloride + midazolam-Medical University of Gdansk refers to the use of morphine hydrochloride and midazolam as premedication agents in a clinical study (NCT01143103) conducted by the Medical University of Gdansk. The study investigated the influence of these drugs on heart rate variability (HRV) and hemodynamic parameters, such as blood pressure stability, in patients undergoing elective surgery under spinal anesthesia. Morphine hydrochloride is a mu-opioid receptor agonist that typically increases parasympathetic activity, while midazolam is a benzodiazepine that acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA-A receptor and is known to increase the sympathetic-to-parasympathetic ratio (LF/HF). The trial compared the two drugs to determine if pharmacological premedication could modify the hemodynamic changes following spinal blockade.
