Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Morroniside** is a naturally occurring iridoid glycoside and the major bioactive component of *Cornus officinalis* (Corni Fructus, Shanzhuyu), a traditional Chinese medicinal herb. It possesses diverse biological activities including anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, antinociceptive, cardioprotective, hepatoprotective, and antioxidative properties, as well as effects on bone and kidney health. Mechanistically, morroniside inhibits canonical and non-canonical NF-κB signaling, suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as TNFα, IL6, IL-1β), downregulates protein degradation pathways (including the myostatin/Smad, ubiquitin-proteasome, and autophagy-lysosome systems), and promotes protein synthesis (mainly IGF-1/PI3K/Akt pathway). It is under investigation primarily for its efficacy in inflammatory skeletal muscle atrophy, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and other conditions associated with inflammation and degeneration
