Morupar is a live attenuated trivalent vaccine indicated for the active immunization against measles, mumps, and rubella in children. It is composed of the Schwarz measles strain, the Wistar RA 27/3 rubella strain, and the Urabe AM9 mumps strain. Historically manufactured by companies such as Chiron and Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccine was typically administered as a two-dose series starting at 12-15 months of age. In 2005, Chiron voluntarily withdrew Morupar from the global market after clinical data and post-marketing surveillance indicated a higher frequency of adverse reactions, specifically febrile seizures and parotitis, compared to MMR vaccines utilizing the Jeryl Lynn mumps strain. The Urabe AM9 component was specifically identified as the primary factor in the increased reactogenicity profile, including a higher risk of aseptic meningitis.
