Overview

Morus alba leaves ethanol extract is a standardized plant extract obtained from the leaves of Morus alba (white mulberry) using ethanol as the solvent. The extract contains multiple bioactive compounds, notably flavonoids, phenolics, anthocyanins, and alkaloids. It exhibits a variety of pharmacological activities including antidiabetic, antihyperlipidemic, anti-obesity, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, neuroprotective, hepatoprotective, vasodilatory, anti-cancer, and antithrombotic effects[1][2][3]. The primary mechanism for the antidiabetic activity involves protection of pancreatic islet cells from dysfunction and death—likely through induction of autophagy and modulation of glucose metabolism—and suppression of gluconeogenic enzymes in the liver[1][2]. The anti-obesity, antihyperlipidemic, and cardiovascular benefits are attributed to its effects on lipid metabolism, suppression of lipid accumulation, platelet aggregation inhibition, and enhancement of nitric oxide-mediated vasodilation[1][3]. Its antioxidant activities are due to high concentrations of phenolic compounds that provide free-radical scavenging activity[1]. Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects are demonstrated by suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and activity against various pathogens[1].
