Morveseidine mesylate (HEC727) is a small molecule NS3/4A protease inhibitor developed by Guangdong Dongyangguang Pharmaceutical (HEC Pharm) for the treatment of chronic viral hepatitis. Although primarily designed as a second-generation direct-acting antiviral (DAA) for chronic hepatitis C (HCV), it has also been investigated in exploratory Phase 2 clinical trials for chronic hepatitis B (HBV). In these trials, morveseidine is typically co-administered with ritonavir, which acts as a pharmacokinetic booster to increase the drug's systemic exposure. The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of the viral NS3/4A protease, an enzyme essential for the cleavage of the viral polyprotein into functional proteins required for viral replication.
