mosaic HBcAg (also known as mosaic HBcoreAg) is a recombinant therapeutic vaccine component developed by Helmholtz Munich, the Technical University of Munich (TUM), and the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF) for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. It is a key protein-priming component of the heterologous TherVacB vaccine regimen, administered alongside adjuvanted hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and followed by a Modified Vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA-HBVac) vector boost. mosaic HBcAg consists of self-assembling virus-like particles (VLPs) engineered from hepatitis B virus (HBV) core proteins of multiple genotypes (primarily genotypes A, C, and D). This mosaic design is intended to overcome immune tolerance and induce broad, potent HBV-specific CD4+ T-cell and B-cell responses covering over 95% of global HBV strains.
