MOTC (Metabolic Optimized T-Cells) is an autologous T-cell therapy developed by Octomera, a subsidiary of Orgenesis. The therapy involves the ex vivo metabolic reprogramming of T cells using the mitochondrial-derived peptide MOTS-c (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA-c). This optimization is designed to enhance the metabolic fitness, persistence, and effector function of the T cells, enabling them to better withstand the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. MOTC is primarily being developed for the treatment of solid tumors, including lung cancer and melanoma, where it aims to provide enhanced anti-tumor activity compared to conventional T-cell therapies. The product is currently in clinical development.
