Motherwell

Motherwell is a multi-ingredient dietary supplement (nutraceutical) developed by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto to prevent and reduce postpartum blues (PPB) and associated mood symptoms. Invented by Dr. Jeffrey Meyer, the supplement is formulated with a combination of blueberry juice and extract (providing antioxidants), tryptophan (2 g), and tyrosine (10 g). It is specifically designed to be administered over days 3–5 postpartum to counteract the surge of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) protein in the brain. This surge typically depletes mood-supporting neurotransmitters such as serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine; Motherwell provides the necessary amino acid precursors and antioxidants to maintain these levels. The product has been licensed to the international women's health company Exeltis and is marketed under the brand name Blues Away®.
