Motixafortide is a cyclic peptide hematopoietic stem cell mobilizer used in combination with filgrastim (a granulocyte-colony stimulating factor) to mobilize hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) for collection and autologous transplantation in patients with multiple myeloma. It acts as an inhibitor of the C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4), blocking the binding of its ligand, stromal-derived factor-1α (SDF-1α)/C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 12 (CXCL12). By inhibiting CXCR4, motixafortide disrupts the anchoring of HSCs to the bone marrow matrix, resulting in increased levels of circulating hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells available for collection. Motixafortide is administered subcutaneously and has been shown to significantly improve stem cell yield when used alongside filgrastim compared to filgrastim alone[1][2][3][5][6].
