Overview

Motretinide is a synthetic retinoid and an aromatic retinoic acid derivative used as a topical agent for the treatment of mild to moderate acne. It exhibits antikeratonizing activity, helping to normalize follicular keratinization and reduce microcomedone formation in acne-prone skin. The drug acts by modulating nuclear receptors involved in skin cell differentiation, similar to other retinoids. Motretinide was initially developed by F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd., with first approval in Switzerland in 1981 for the indication of acne vulgaris[2][3][4][5].
