Overview

MOv18 IgE is a first-in-class, chimeric mouse/human monoclonal antibody of the immunoglobulin E (IgE) class that targets folate receptor alpha (FRα), an antigen overexpressed in several cancers, most notably ovarian cancer. Unlike conventional therapeutic antibodies which are typically of the IgG class, MOv18 IgE leverages the unique effector functions of IgE to recruit and activate immune cells such as macrophages within the tumor microenvironment. This results in enhanced antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) and phagocytosis (ADCP), as well as release of pro-inflammatory mediators that attract and activate T cells to destroy tumor cells. The drug was discovered and developed at King’s College London in collaboration with Fondazione IRCCS Instituto Nazionale dei Tumori, Milan, Italy, and is now being clinically developed by Epsilogen. It is administered intravenously for patients with advanced or platinum-resistant ovarian cancer expressing folate receptor alpha[1][4][5][6][8][9].
