MOv18 IgG1 is a monoclonal antibody that specifically targets folate receptor alpha (FRα), an antigen overexpressed on the surface of several cancers, particularly ovarian cancer. It is an IgG1-class antibody engineered to engage immune effector mechanisms including antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) and antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis (ADCP) via activation of immune cells such as macrophages. While the more clinically advanced variant MOv18 IgE is being developed for its novel IgE-mediated mechanisms, MOv18 IgG1 serves as a comparator and precursor in preclinical studies and in the development of FRα-targeted therapies. The principal mechanism of action is to bind FRα on tumor cells, enhancing the immune system's ability to recognize and destroy these cancer cells. Development of MOv18 IgG1 has contributed to the understanding of FRα-targeted immunotherapies, but the main clinical progression has shifted to the IgE variant.
