MOv19-z CAR T cells are autologous T cells genetically modified to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) using the MOv19 single-chain variable fragment (scFv) specific for **folate receptor alpha (FRα)**. The CAR structure in this version incorporates the MOv19 scFv linked directly to the CD3 zeta (ζ) signaling domain, constituting a first-generation CAR without ancillary costimulatory domains. This design enables T cells to specifically recognize and attack FRα-expressing tumor cells, such as those found in ovarian cancer. MOv19-z CAR T cells were developed by academic investigators, notably Powell and colleagues, and have been evaluated preclinically for antitumor efficacy and persistence.
