MOVIPREP

MOVIPREP is a low-volume, polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based osmotic laxative developed by Norgine for bowel cleansing prior to colonoscopy and other diagnostic procedures. It is particularly utilized in the context of colorectal cancer screening to ensure high-quality visualization of the colonic mucosa, which is critical for the detection of polyps and adenomas. The formulation consists of PEG-3350, sodium sulfate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, and an ascorbate component (ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate). Its mechanism of action relies on the osmotic properties of PEG and anhydrous sodium sulfate, which induce a purgative effect by drawing water into the bowel, while the ascorbate component further enhances the cleansing effect. MOVIPREP is designed to be administered as a 2-liter solution, offering a lower volume alternative to traditional 4-liter PEG preparations.
