This is a combination of two antibiotics, moxifloxacin and penicillin. Moxifloxacin is a synthetic fluoroquinolone antibiotic that acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. Penicillins are beta-lactam antibiotics that inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death. This combination would theoretically provide broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria through dual mechanisms—disruption of DNA processes (moxifloxacin) and inhibition of cell wall synthesis (penicillin). While combinations of moxifloxacin with other beta-lactams like piperacillin-tazobactam have shown synergistic effects in vitro against certain resistant pathogens[5], there is no evidence for a fixed-dose or branded product specifically combining moxifloxacin with any penicillin.
