Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MOXIMER-LP is a preservative-free (BAK-free) ophthalmic combination drug developed by Martia Laboratories for the treatment of bacterial eye infections associated with inflammation. It contains moxifloxacin, a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and loteprednol etabonate, a corticosteroid. Moxifloxacin exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for bacterial DNA replication and repair. Loteprednol etabonate acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, blocking the production of prostaglandins and other inflammatory mediators to reduce redness, swelling, and itching. This combination is also used to manage post-operative inflammation following eye surgery.
