Overview

MPC-06-ID is an allogeneic cell therapy product candidate consisting of a unit dose of 6 million mesenchymal precursor cells (MPCs), administered via direct injection into a damaged intervertebral disc. It is being developed primarily for the treatment of chronic low back pain due to degenerative disc disease, particularly in patients who have exhausted conservative treatment options. The mechanism of action involves the secretion of bioactive molecules by MPCs that modulate local immune responses and reduce inflammation, as well as stimulate new proteoglycan and collagen synthesis by chondrocytes and resident disc cells. These effects aim to restore disc structure and function, increase water content, improve stability, and alleviate pain. Clinical trials have shown durable improvements in both pain relief and functional outcomes for at least three years following a single injection[1][2][5][6][8].
