MPC-NTFs are a cell-based biologic therapy consisting of muscle progenitor cells (MPCs) that have been genetically modified to overexpress four specific neurotrophic factors: Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), and Glial Cell Line-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (GDNF). This therapy was developed through a collaboration between Tel Aviv University and the Weizmann Institute of Science and was licensed to Stem Cell Medicine Ltd. (SCM) for commercial development. The treatment is designed to address peripheral nerve injuries and neuropathic pain by leveraging the synergistic effects of these factors to promote nerve regeneration and functional recovery. Preclinical studies in sciatic nerve injury models have demonstrated its ability to alleviate both motor and sensory deficits.
