Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MPL-SE is an adjuvant used in vaccine formulations, particularly for leishmaniasis vaccines. It consists of monophosphoryl lipid A (MPL) in a stable emulsion (SE). MPL-SE has been shown to enhance immune responses by directing them towards a Th1 profile, which is beneficial for protection against leishmaniasis. When combined with antigens such as Leish-111f or SMT (sterol 24-c-methyltransferase), it induces antigen-specific multifunctional CD4+ T cells capable of producing IFN-γ, IL-2, and/or TNF-α, which are associated with protection against leishmaniasis.
