Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MPN-coated engineered Lactobacillus reuteri cream is a topical live biotherapeutic product developed by Shenzhen People's Hospital for the treatment of acne. The formulation features *Lactobacillus reuteri* that has been engineered and encapsulated within a metal-phenolic network (MPN) coating composed of zinc sulfate and tannic acid. This specialized coating is designed to enhance the probiotic's survival and colonization on the skin's surface, which is typically a harsh environment for such microbes. By improving bacterial persistence, the therapy aims to modulate the skin's microecology, restore microbial balance, and reduce the inflammatory responses that drive acne progression. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for patients with Grade I to III acne.
