Overview

MQ005 is a recombinant human soluble ST2 (sST2) protein developed by Mcure Biosciences for the treatment of sepsis. It functions as a decoy receptor for interleukin-33 (IL-33), a member of the IL-1 family that acts as an 'alarmin' released during cell stress or damage. By binding and sequestering extracellular IL-33, MQ005 prevents its interaction with the membrane-bound ST2 receptor (ST2L), thereby inhibiting the downstream pro-inflammatory signaling cascades that contribute to the cytokine storm and organ dysfunction characteristic of sepsis. MQ005 is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical evaluation to determine its safety and tolerability in adult patients.
