Overview

MR-101 is a small molecule inhibitor of the vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) being developed by SHINKEI Therapeutics. It is currently in Phase 1 clinical development for the treatment of chorea associated with Huntington's Disease. By inhibiting VMAT2, the drug reduces the uptake of monoamines, particularly dopamine, into synaptic vesicles, thereby decreasing their subsequent release into the synaptic cleft. This modulation of dopaminergic signaling is intended to alleviate the hyperkinetic motor symptoms (chorea) characteristic of Huntington's Disease.
