Overview

MR-130A-01 is a progestin-only transdermal contraceptive patch containing norelgestromin (NGMN) as its active ingredient. It is being developed by Viatris (formerly Mylan Pharmaceuticals) as a female contraceptive option. The patch works through a progesterone receptor agonist mechanism, which helps prevent pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation and affecting other physiological functions related to the reproductive system[1][5]. Norelgestromin is already available in combination with ethinyl estradiol (EE) in combined hormonal contraceptive transdermal systems such as Xulane (US) and Evra (EU), but MR-130A-01 is a progestin-only formulation[6][9]. The patch is designed to be applied to the skin (upper outer arm, abdomen, buttock, or back) and changed weekly[9].
