Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MR19D6A is an investigational topical formulation of metronidazole developed by Maruishi Pharmaceutical for the management of malodorous cancerous cutaneous ulcers. Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole antibiotic that is effective against anaerobic bacteria, which are the primary cause of the offensive odor associated with necrotic tumor tissues in advanced cancer. MR19D6A is designed to provide localized antibacterial activity with minimal systemic absorption. In clinical studies, it has been evaluated for safety, pharmacokinetics, and usability in comparison to Rozex Gel (0.75% metronidazole), the standard topical treatment for this indication in Japan.
