MRM-XRT is a preclinical-stage gold nanoparticle-based radiation sensitizer developed by Zylem Biosciences. It is specifically designed to treat radiation-resistant prostate cancer, with potential expansion to other solid tumor types. The therapeutic approach utilizes gold nanoparticles to enhance the local effects of radiotherapy by increasing the absorption of ionizing radiation within the tumor microenvironment. The mechanism of action involves targeting glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) and scavenger receptor class B member 1 (SR-B1), which are key regulators of lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis. By inhibiting these targets, MRM-XRT aims to sensitize cancer cells to radiation-induced oxidative stress and overcome common resistance mechanisms in advanced prostate cancer.
