mRNA-0184 is a novel, investigational lipid nanoparticle–encapsulated mRNA therapy developed to treat heart failure. It encodes for human relaxin-2 fused to variable light chain kappa (Rel2-vlk), which extends the half-life of the protein. The therapy is designed to stimulate endogenous production of relaxin, a naturally occurring hormone that promotes vasodilation and angiogenesis, potentially improving cardiac function in patients with heart failure. The drug was being evaluated in phase 1 clinical trials for safety and tolerability in adults with chronic heart failure but has since been discontinued for this indication.
