mRNA-1010.4 is an investigational quadrivalent mRNA-based vaccine candidate developed by Moderna for the prevention of seasonal influenza. It is a specific variation of the parent candidate mRNA-1010, designed to evaluate optimized formulations or dosages. The vaccine utilizes messenger RNA encapsulated within lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) to encode the hemagglutinin (HA) glycoproteins of four World Health Organization-recommended influenza strains: influenza A (H1N1 and H3N2) and influenza B (Yamagata and Victoria lineages). Upon administration, the mRNA is translated by the host's cellular machinery to produce the viral HA proteins, which then trigger an immune response, including the production of neutralizing antibodies and T-cell activation. mRNA-1010.4 is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials to assess its safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity in healthy adults.
