mRNA-1010.6 is an investigational quadrivalent mRNA-based vaccine developed by Moderna for the prevention of seasonal influenza. It is an optimized iteration of the lead candidate mRNA-1010, designed to encode the hemagglutinin (HA) glycoproteins of four seasonal influenza strains recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO): influenza A (H1N1 and H3N2) and influenza B (Yamagata and Victoria lineages). The vaccine utilizes Moderna's proprietary lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery system to induce both humoral and cellular immune responses against the viral HA protein, which is essential for viral entry into host cells. mRNA-1010.6 was specifically developed to improve immunogenicity against influenza B strains compared to earlier versions of the program. In late-stage clinical trials, it has demonstrated a favorable safety profile and met primary immunogenicity endpoints.
