Overview

mRNA-1011.1 + mRNA-1011.2 + mRNA-1012.1 is a combination of messenger RNA (mRNA) drug substances developed by Moderna as a next-generation seasonal influenza vaccine. This specific combination serves as the updated formulation of Moderna's quadrivalent influenza vaccine candidate, mRNA-1010, and is also the influenza component of the COVID-19/Influenza combination vaccine, mRNA-1083. The vaccine utilizes lipid nanoparticle (LNP) technology to deliver mRNA sequences encoding the hemagglutinin (HA) proteins of four seasonal influenza strains: Influenza A (H1N1 and H3N2) and Influenza B (Victoria and Yamagata lineages). By encoding the HA protein, the vaccine aims to elicit neutralizing antibodies and T-cell responses to prevent infection and severe disease caused by seasonal flu. The updated formulation (incorporating mRNA-1011 and mRNA-1012 components) was designed to improve the immune response against Influenza B strains compared to the first-generation mRNA-1010.
