Overview
mRNA-1073 is an investigational combination vaccine developed by Moderna that targets both SARS-CoV-2 (the virus responsible for COVID-19) and influenza. It is designed as a prophylactic mRNA-based vaccine, encoding the full-length spike (S) protein of SARS-CoV-2 in a prefusion conformation and the hemagglutinin (HA) surface glycoproteins of four influenza strains. The mechanism of action involves inducing immune responses against both the coronavirus spike glycoprotein and influenza virus hemagglutinin glycoproteins, thereby providing protection against both diseases. The drug is currently in Phase 1/2 clinical trials for use in adults aged 18 to 75 years.
