mRNA-1083.1 is an investigational combination vaccine candidate developed by Moderna. It is one of three variants (mRNA-1083.1, mRNA-1083.2, mRNA-1083.3) of the mRNA-1083 vaccine platform designed to prevent both seasonal influenza and COVID-19 infections in a single shot. The vaccine combines components of mRNA-1010 (Moderna's seasonal flu vaccine candidate) and mRNA-1283 (Moderna's next-generation COVID-19 vaccine candidate). As an mRNA vaccine, it works by introducing messenger RNA that instructs cells to produce viral proteins, which then trigger an immune response against both influenza virus strains (A/H1N1, A/H3N2, and B/Victoria-lineage) and SARS-CoV-2.
