Overview

mRNA-1230 is a multi-component mRNA vaccine candidate developed by Moderna that targets three major respiratory pathogens: seasonal influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and SARS-CoV-2. The vaccine is formulated using lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) and contains mRNA sequences encoding the hemagglutinin (HA) proteins of four influenza strains (typically A/H1N1, A/H3N2, B/Victoria, and B/Yamagata), the stabilized prefusion F protein of RSV, and the spike (S) protein of SARS-CoV-2. By combining these antigens into a single injection, mRNA-1230 aims to provide broad protection against respiratory infections and improve vaccination compliance, particularly in older adults. It entered Phase 1 clinical testing (NCT05585632) to evaluate safety and immunogenicity compared to its individual component vaccines, which include mRNA-1010 (influenza), mRNA-1345 (RSV), and mRNA-1273.214 (SARS-CoV-2).
