Overview

mRNA-1273.211 is a bivalent, investigational COVID-19 vaccine booster developed by Moderna. It utilizes messenger RNA (mRNA) technology to encode the spike glycoproteins of both the original Wuhan-Hu-1 strain and the Beta (B.1.351) variant of SARS-CoV-2, delivered via lipid nanoparticles[2][4]. The vaccine is designed to broaden immune protection against multiple variants of concern, including Beta, Delta, and Omicron[1][4][6]. In clinical studies, a 50 µg booster dose demonstrated superior neutralizing antibody responses compared to Moderna's first-generation mRNA-1273 booster against these variants at one month post-vaccination; this superiority persisted for Beta and Omicron at six months[1][5][8]. The safety profile was similar to that of the authorized mRNA-1273 booster at equivalent doses[2][5].
