mRNA-1440 is an investigational lipid nanoparticle-formulated, non-replicating mRNA vaccine developed by Moderna (through its infectious disease venture Valera) that encodes the hemagglutinin (HA) surface glycoprotein of the influenza A H10N8 strain, a bird flu virus with pandemic potential.[1][5][10][11] Once administered, host cells translate the delivered mRNA to produce the H10N8 HA antigen, which is presented to the immune system to elicit neutralizing antibodies and cellular responses aimed at preventing infection.[2][3][5] In phase 1 clinical trials in healthy adults, single-dose mRNA-1440 demonstrated acceptable safety and strong immunogenicity, with high hemagglutination inhibition and microneutralization titers consistent with protective immunity, but development has not advanced beyond early clinical evaluation.[1][2][3][5][11]
