mRNA-1443 is an investigational mRNA-based vaccine developed by Moderna for the prevention of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections. It encodes a phosphorylation mutant of the CMV pp65 protein, designed to stimulate an immune response against CMV. The vaccine uses nucleoside-modified messenger RNA encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles for delivery. Its mechanism of action is immunostimulation, aiming to elicit both humoral and cellular immunity against CMV by presenting the pp65 antigen to the immune system[1][3][4]. mRNA-1443 has been studied as part of combination regimens with other CMV antigens (such as in combination with mRNA-1647), but no recent clinical development has been reported beyond phase 1 trials[1][5].
