Overview

mRNA-2736 is an investigational mRNA-based therapeutic developed by Moderna for the treatment of relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). The drug consists of mRNA encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) that, upon administration, directs the body's cells to produce a bispecific T-cell engager (TCE) protein. This TCE is designed to simultaneously bind to B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) on the surface of malignant plasma cells and the CD3 epsilon subunit of the T-cell receptor complex on T cells. By bridging these two cell types, mRNA-2736 facilitates the activation of T cells and the subsequent targeted lysis of myeloma cells. This approach leverages the advantages of mRNA technology to provide a potentially more flexible and effective alternative to traditional recombinant protein-based bispecific antibodies.
