**mRNA-2905** is an investigational mRNA immunotherapy developed by Moderna in collaboration with AstraZeneca for immuno-oncology applications. It encodes interleukin-12 (IL-12), a potent cytokine that activates the immune system, particularly by enhancing T cell responses against tumors. Delivered via intratumoral (iTu) injection using lipid nanoparticles (LNP), it enables localized high-concentration expression of IL-12 in the tumor microenvironment, potentially reducing systemic toxicity associated with direct IL-12 protein administration while promoting stronger anti-tumor immunity and possible abscopal effects in metastatic disease. Preclinical studies suggest synergy with checkpoint inhibitors to improve cancer therapy outcomes; GLP toxicology studies were ongoing as of 2017, with AstraZeneca leading early clinical development under a 2016 co-development agreement.[1][5]
