mRNA-3630 is an investigational messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine candidate developed by Moderna to prevent infection by the protozoan parasite *Toxoplasma gondii*. The vaccine utilizes Moderna's proprietary lipid nanoparticle (LNP) technology to deliver mRNA sequences that encode for specific antigens of the parasite. Upon administration, host cells translate the mRNA into proteins that mimic the parasite's surface or secreted proteins, thereby stimulating both humoral (antibody) and cellular (T-cell) immune responses. This approach aims to provide protection against primary infection and potentially prevent the reactivation of latent toxoplasmosis, which is particularly dangerous for immunocompromised individuals and during pregnancy, where it can lead to congenital toxoplasmosis.
