Drug intelligence / Profile preview
An updated monovalent COVID-19 vaccine formulation whose antigen encodes spike protein sequence from the Omicron XBB.1.5 lineage to broaden neutralizing antibodies against XBB-descendant variants. It is delivered as an mRNA vaccine in lipid nanoparticles for Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna products, and as a protein subunit with Matrix-M adjuvant for Novavax. Mechanism: translated spike protein induces adaptive immunity, generating neutralizing antibodies and T-cell responses that reduce risk of severe COVID-19. Indication: active immunization to prevent COVID-19 across authorized age groups, primarily for seasonal 2023-2024 use aligned with circulating variants.
