Overview

This is an investigational autologous dendritic cell-based cancer vaccine developed by researchers at Oslo University Hospital (Norwegian Radium Hospital) for the treatment of metastatic androgen-resistant (castration-resistant) prostate cancer. The vaccine is produced by harvesting monocyte-derived dendritic cells from the patient and transfecting them with messenger RNA (mRNA) extracted from three allogeneic prostate cancer cell lines (DU-145, LNCaP, and PC-3) using electroporation. This approach allows the dendritic cells to present a broad spectrum of tumor-associated antigens to the patient's immune system. The vaccine is designed to elicit specific T-cell responses against prostate cancer cells. In Phase I/II clinical trials, the vaccine was administered either intranodally or intradermally and demonstrated a favorable safety profile, with approximately half of the patients developing specific immune responses and some showing decreases in prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels.
