These vaccines are designed to deliver mRNA encoding the viral spike protein, which is then expressed and assembled into VLPs within the body to trigger a robust immune response. This approach aims to combine the rapid development advantages of mRNA technology with the potentially enhanced immunogenicity and stability of VLP presentation. As of the ARTEMIS-C trial, these candidates are being evaluated in Phase I clinical studies for safety and immunogenicity as single-dose boosters in healthy adults.
