mRx-7 is a synthetic double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) mimic of microRNA-7 (miR-7) being developed by MiReven as a microRNA-based therapeutic. It functions as a miR-7 replacement therapy designed to restore the levels of this microRNA, which is frequently downregulated in various cancers. The mechanism of action involves the synthetic miR-7 mimic targeting the mRNA of the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR), thereby reducing EGFR protein production and inhibiting EGFR-dependent downstream signaling pathways. mRx-7 is currently in preclinical development, specifically in the IND-enabling stage, for the treatment of several solid tumors including hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer), head and neck cancer, metastatic melanoma, and glioblastoma multiforme.
