MRX-8 is a novel injectable polymyxin B analog developed by MicuRx Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (MDR-GNB), including carbapenem-resistant strains. It is designed to have the same antibacterial spectrum as colistin and polymyxin B, targeting pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter baumannii. Unlike traditional polymyxins that are limited by nephrotoxicity and neurotoxicity, MRX-8 has been structurally optimized to reduce these toxicities while maintaining or enhancing efficacy. Its mechanism of action involves modulation of bacterial cell membrane structure leading to rapid bactericidal activity against susceptible Gram-negative organisms. Clinical trials have demonstrated dose-proportional pharmacokinetics and a favorable safety profile in healthy volunteers[1][2][5][6][7].
