Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MRx1299 is a second-generation, single-strain Live Biotherapeutic Product (LBP) being developed by 4D pharma for oncology applications. [1-2] It consists of the bacterium *Megasphaera massiliensis* and its short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) metabolites, pentanoate and butyrate. [6-1] The drug was identified using 4D pharma's MicroRx® discovery platform and works through potent histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibition mediated by its SCFAs. [1-2, 1-7] This mechanism enhances the ability of cytotoxic T lymphocytes to reduce tumor growth in preclinical cancer models. [1-9] As of 2019, MRx1299 was in GMP manufacturing development. [7-2]
