Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MSB-2040 is a topical live biotherapeutic product (LBP) being developed by MatriSys Bioscience for the treatment of Netherton Syndrome. Netherton Syndrome is a rare and severe genetic skin disorder caused by mutations in the SPINK5 gene, which leads to a deficiency in the LEKTI protease inhibitor, resulting in chronic skin inflammation, barrier dysfunction, and increased susceptibility to infections. MSB-2040 utilizes beneficial commensal skin bacteria (bacteriotherapy) to restore the natural balance of the skin microbiome and potentially modulate the inflammatory environment associated with the disease. The drug is currently in preclinical development.
