Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MSB-3163 is a live biotherapeutic product being developed by MatriSys Bioscience as a topical treatment for acne vulgaris. [3, 5, 6] It consists of a specific strain of beneficial bacteria, *Staphylococcus capitis* (S. capitis E12), which was selected for its ability to selectively inhibit *Cutibacterium acnes*, a bacterium associated with acne. [3, 5] Licensed from Dr. Richard Gallo's lab at the University of California San Diego, MSB-3163 has shown greater potency against *C. acnes* than commonly used antibiotics in preclinical models. [3, 5] The company has been conducting a Phase 1b clinical study to evaluate the drug in patients. [4, 8, 10]
