Overview

MSC-379 is a genetically engineered mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy designed to secrete extracellular vesicles (EVs) or exosomes enriched with microRNA-379 (miR-379). Developed by researchers at the National University of Ireland Galway, MSC-379 leverages the natural tumor-homing capacity of MSCs to deliver miR-379 directly to tumor sites. miR-379 acts as a potent tumor suppressor, particularly in breast cancer, where its expression is typically reduced. The therapeutic effect of miR-379 is mediated in part through the downregulation of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), cyclin B1 (CCNB1), and interleukin-11 (IL-11) expression, leading to increased tumor necrosis and decreased invasion and metastasis.
