Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MSC-AFP is an investigational autologous cell-based biologic therapy developed by the Mayo Clinic for the treatment of high, transsphincteric cryptoglandular perianal fistulas. The product consists of approximately 20 million autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) that are seeded onto a synthetic biomatrix, specifically the Gore Bio-A Fistula Plug. The treatment protocol involves initial drainage and seton placement, followed six weeks later by the implantation of the MSC-loaded plug into the fistula tract. The MSCs are intended to promote healing and fistula closure through their regenerative and immunomodulatory properties, providing a localized therapeutic effect within the fistula environment.
