Overview

MSC-KI-PL-204 is an autologous mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) therapy developed by Karolinska University Hospital for the treatment of severe dysphonia and vocal fold scarring. The therapeutic process involves harvesting MSCs from the patient's own bone marrow, which are then purified, expanded, and characterized at the Center of Hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM) at Karolinska University Hospital Huddinge. The cells are administered via local injection into the scarred vocal folds, often following phonomicrosurgical dissection to remove existing scar tissue. The therapy aims to leverage the regenerative, anti-inflammatory, and pro-angiogenic properties of MSCs to improve vocal fold pliability and restore voice function in patients for whom traditional treatments have failed.
